Harvest Moon at the Halsey

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, or simply The Halsey as most Charlestonians know, hosted a member gala this Friday. A few weeks ago I caught the opening for the Chris Jordan show and didn't take any photos, this time I shot a couple. Really an interesting concept- representing facts and figures to create a "portrait" of a society. Such as a copy of Van Gogh's "Skull with a Burning Cigarette" produced through photos of cigarette packs.. A magic-eye style portrait of two breasts created by a collage of Barbie dolls, representing the amount of breast augmentation surgeries performed in the US in a year or amount of time..
                                                                   You get the picture.
                                                                      Great concept.
Now the fact that he takes photos of staged objects, sends them out to be printed so the total is a certain amount, in a certain pattern is a bit.. Koons-esque if I may, but hey, its the thought that counts right?
Enjoy the photos.
The elder gentleman with the ascot was gnarly.
