There is a saying in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the growing small town in which I grew up, that men will use to call attention to themselves. This may take place when one is say, doing "hella-work" on a video game. Or "handing you your ass" at beer pong or another ritualistic inebriation practice. That phrase is-
"LOOK AT YOUR BOY!"
Now, it may seem odd to refer to ones self as "your" anything, as this implies a relationship of love, or ownership, both of which no other man may hold upon another in Southern society.
But they do it.
My God they do it.
"Ohhhhhhhh. Your Boy with the Clutch!"
"Your Boy from Downtown"
This is also used when discussing, around parties that arent "down" or "cool", the purchase or use of drugs. For instance "What'd Your Boy say about that quap?"or "Wheres Your Boy at?"
This frees the asker of the question from association with the said "boy", but still evokes a response from the other party.
So, in this era of Post WWII Earth, writing, humor, music, art, and life in general can be expressed by its proprietor in the tradition we now call "surrealism"
I have decided to put this method to use to combat the phrase.
Everytime I refer to someone that is not in the room, I will turn to someone in the room and say "blah blah.. something about Your Boy!" and when they say "Wait, Who?" I say-
Your Boy.... The Cat.
Trust me. Thats funny.
..And that's how you appropreate a tradition you aren't involved with, and bring about its certain end.
Your Welcome English.
